Midco Softphone for Teams
Midco Softphone for Teams is an app that integrates Midco Softphone Client with the Microsoft Teams UI. The Midco Softphone for Teams app is compatible with Microsoft Teams for desktop, mobile and web.
You can use the Midco Softphone for Teams app to:
- Make calls from within the Microsoft Teams UI using Midco Softphone Desktop, Midco Softphone Mobile or your desk phone.
- Listen to and manage their voicemails.
- Update your call availability.
Install the Midco Softphone for Teams
- In Microsoft Teams, select the ellipsis in the left-hand app bar.
- In the Find an app search box, enter “Midco Softphone for Teams.”
- Select Midco Softphone for Teams and then tap Add.
Sign into Midco Softphone for Teams
The first time you use the Midco Softphone for Teams, you are prompted to sign in to your CommPortal account. Use the same username (phone number or email if configured) and password as your Midco Softphone.
Setup for Midco Softphone for Teams
Choose which Calling Mode is appropriate for your needs.
Using Click-To-Dial (Default Calling Mode)
- The Midco Softphone for Teams app first calls your phone.
- Once you answer your phone, the app rings the destination phone to connect your call.
- If the call fails, select Retry Call to attempt the same call again, or select New Call to edit the contact details before attempting another call.
Using Midco Softphone for Teams (Tel URI)
If you enable Midco Softphone for Teams (Tel URI) calling in the Midco Softphone for Teams app, you can make calls directly using the Midco Softphone app. When you use the keypad or select a number button in the Midco Softphone for Teams (in Microsoft Teams desktop or web):
- If your PC is already running the Midco Softphone app: Your PC will start the call immediately using the Midco Softphone app.
- If your PC is not running the Midco Softphone app: Your PC will launch the Midco Softphone app and start the call.
- If you’re not signed in when the Midco Softphone for Teams app launches the Midco Softphone app: You will be prompted to sign in before the call starts.
Setup for Midco Softphone for Teams (Tel URI)
- Select the Midco Softphone for Teams icon in the left-hand app bar to open the Midco Softphone for Teams tab.
- Select the Settings tab.
- Select the drop-down under the Calling mode heading, and select Midco Softphone for Teams (Tel URI).
- You must also configure Midco Softphone app to accept call requests.
- Open the Midco Softphone app.
- Select Tools, then Options – General.
- Check the box beside Use Midco Softphone to call phone number links in emails and web pages.
Use the Midco Softphone for Teams tab
On the Midco Softphone for Teams tab, you can:
- Select the Call History tab to view and redial numbers.
- Select the Voicemail tab to listen to your voicemails.
- Select Contacts to view and make calls to your CommPortal, Business Group and Teams contacts. Note: For Teams contacts, you must use the search bar.
- If you have the Business Call Manager (BCM), select your status in the dropdown to change your availability. Select Open Call Manager to open your Call Manager in a new browser window and change your settings.
- Use the keypad to make a call to any number.
Troubleshoot Midco Softphone for Teams Calling
For Midco Softphone V2.32 or earlier, check the URL: TEL Protocol setting for Midco Softphone for Teams on your PC.
- Open the Windows Control Panel and navigate to Programs > Default Programs > Associate a file type or protocol with a program.
- Under Apps > Default Apps, select Midco Softphone.

- In the pop-up window that appears, select Midco Softphone and then OK.
